Hi! My name is Melissa Cox. I graduated from Troy State University in 2000 with a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education. In 2005, I earned my Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education at Auburn University at Montgomery.
I have been teaching since 2000. I taught 4th grade in Columbus, Georgia from 2000-2001. I taught kindergarten at Autaugaville School from 2001-2006. I have taught at Daniel Pratt for the past two years and absolutely love it!
I believe that the classroom should be a safe place to learn through success and mistakes. A visitor to our classroom will find boys and girls doing many things. Reading, writing, literacy and math centers, science activities and art projects, to name a few. Our classroom is quiet sometimes, but not so quiet most of the time - the sound of learning is a lot different than noise! My students take an active roll in the daily routines. Once they have learned the routines, they will take responsiblity for activities such as calendar time and clean-up - under my watchful eye. Their classroom quickly becomes THEIR classroom. First grade is a busy, exciting year jam-packed with new things to learn!
I have been married to David since 2000 and have two daughters, Hannah, 3, and Emma, 1. In my free time I enjoy reading, renting movies, and spending time with my family.
I love to teach and cannot wait to begin the 2008-2009 school year!
